MAC Address - Why is it important? & How you can find it on your device.

MAC Address is an acronym that stands for Media Access Control and acts as a Unique Identifier that provides a method for your device to be recognized and granted access to the network. This address is sometimes referred to as a Physical address, Hardware address or Wi-Fi address depending on the manufacturer. Regardless of the name, this is an important piece of information when troubleshooting a network related issue due to the feature that allows tracing of your specific device that may be seeing issues. With this information we are better able to recognize your unique problem and trace the problem in a quicker, more effective manner. Methods of finding your devices MAC address are listed below.

Finding your MAC:

 

Computers:

iMac / MacBook:

System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Hardware > Physical Address:

PC (Windows):

Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Hardware Properties > (Scroll down) > Physical Address.

 

Mobile Phone/ Tablet:

iPhone / iPad:

Settings > Wi-Fi > (Click on connected Network) > Wi-Fi Address.

Android:

Settings > About Device > Status > Wi-Fi MAC Address.

 

Gaming Console:

Xbox:

Press the Xbox Button > Profile & System > Settings > General > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Wired MAC.

PlayStation 4:

From the PS4 Home Screen > Settings > System > System Information > MAC Address.

PlayStation 5:

From the PS5 Home Screen > Settings > System > System Information > Console Information > MAC Address.

Nintendo Switch:

Select the Wi-Fi network icon on taskbar > Wi-Fi > Advanced options > Properties > IPv4 Address.
