How to Release/Renew IP Address

Refreshing the IP address can resolve network errors and connection problems when switching to a new router or network.

For the Windows OS:

  1. Open Command Prompt
  2. Type ipconfig for current IP address
  3. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter
  4. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter
  5. Type ipconfig and press Enter to check your new IP address

 

For the Mac/Apple OS:

1.  On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Network in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down)

2.  Click the network service that needs a renewed IP address, then click Details

3.  Click TCP/IP, then click Renew DHCP Lease

4.  Click OK
