NAT Issues on Xbox Devices

Troubleshooting NAT Type on Xbox Consoles

If you're experiencing NAT (Network Address Translation) issues on your Xbox console, such as being stuck on a strict NAT type or not achieving a moderate NAT status, there are steps you can take on your end to improve the situation. Please note that these steps only apply to Xbox consoles, as PlayStation consoles do not currently have the option to toggle these settings as of the time this article was written.

Important Note About NAT Changes

Unfortunately, we are not able to adjust NAT settings on our end without impacting the network for all users. Modifying NAT settings globally could introduce security risks that would compromise the safety of our entire network. As such, we cannot make any changes to NAT settings for individual users.

However, there are some things you can try on your Xbox console to help improve your NAT type and ideally set it to "Moderate" status, which will provide a stable connection.

Steps to Try on Your Xbox Console

  1. Navigate to Advanced Networking Settings
On your Xbox, go to the Settings menu, then select Network. From there, navigate to Advanced Settings.

  2. Click on Alternate Port Selection
In the Advanced Settings section, select the Alternate Port Selection option. This will allow you to adjust certain ports your Xbox uses to communicate with the network.

  3. Click Manual
After selecting Alternate Port Selection, click on Manual. This will let you enter specific port numbers manually rather than using the default automatic settings.

  4. Try Different Port Numbers
You will be presented with a range of port number options to choose from. Try selecting different port numbers and testing your NAT status after each change. Your goal is to achieve a Moderate NAT type, which is the best achievable status for most users in this scenario.

    • Note: A Moderate NAT type typically provides a balanced experience for online gaming and should work well for most online activities.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you should be able to achieve a Moderate NAT status, which will allow for a stable and functional online experience. If the issue persists after completing these steps, please reach out to CBX support, and we will do our best to assist you, though please note there may be limitations to what we can address.
